Xavier Verhoest (Artist, Art2Be)

Art for Positive Living and Social Changes

“I have always thought about destruction and bloodshed. I have learned here that I can create and share a lot of good things for me and from us. I am re-building myself and my city. I am not this broken mirror anymore”

Participant of Art for Social Change (CISP), Mogadishu 2018

Xavier Verhoest

Born in Congo, and raised in Belgium, Xavier Verhoest is an artist who has been living in Kenya for many years. In 2006, he co-founded Art2be in Nairobi, an organization that team up with artists, psychologist, counselors and researchers.

Art2Be use artistic methods and develop projects that model the possibility of a respectful, understanding and caring environment where co-existence rather than rejection can prevail. We use art and expressive methodologies that strengthen participants and community’s appreciation of the diversity of human beings with a strong focus on the commonalities between people.

Powerful artistic means of expression with their inherent healing, life force, creative and cultural nature bring participants and public to another type of engagement where self-expression, diversity, relation to urban public spaces create opportunities for meaningful public dialogue.
